James Poole

Head of Factual Development

James Poole is a UK-based filmmaker and director whose career has been defined by telling powerful, character-driven stories within sport and beyond. His work captures not only the achievements of elite athletes but the resilience, identity, and ambition that shape them as people.

James’ latest feature documentary, Szczęsny (Prime Video), explores the life and remarkable return from retirement of Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. He previously directed the four-part series Born to be a Wanderer, chronicling Bolton Wanderers’ dramatic rise from the brink of collapse, and Impossibly Fast, which follows Olympic gold medalist and Ironman World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt’s attempt to redefine the limits of triathlon in the Pho3nix Sub7/Sub8 Project.

Earlier in his career, James made The Pursuit (2018), documenting Team KGF’s (now Team HUUB Wattbike) groundbreaking debut season that disrupted the world of track cycling.

Alongside his documentary slate, James has directed branded films and campaigns for leading global partners including Nike, Red Bull, Asics, Zwift, IWC, Fabergé, and Burberry.

As Head of Factual Development, James brings this breadth of experience to identifying and shaping distinctive stories, forging creative partnerships, and building ambitious factual projects with the potential to resonate with audiences worldwide.
